The Light of Wanting

I was recently listening to a talk when I dropped into the feeling — that familiar, expansive sense of coming home. Pure presence. Love. And in that moment, I saw a light. Maybe not an actual light, but the light of awareness. I saw how often I am not living from my wanting.

From my desire.
From what I truly want.

In that clarity, I realized I wanted to fly from the location I was currently in to a different one. It might not sound like a big deal, but if you’ve ever dealt with airlines, you know it can be a hassle to switch things at the last minute. In the past, I would have talked myself out of it — convincing myself that I “should” go home, see my dog, be responsible, do the practical thing.

But this time, I rested in the feeling. That deep inner knowing that whispered, “You want to live in this space.” A place of pure possibility. So I called the airline. And the representative who answered said, “You can have whatever you want.” I was struck by those words. Words I often use myself. Words my coach uses — words I believe originally spoken by Barbara Banks:

“You can have anything you want. You just have to actually want it.”

It really is true. When we listen to our wanting — to the creative force of the universe moving through us — life tends to align. Things work out beautifully. Often even better than we imagined. But we forget that it starts with a feeling. The feeling is your energy field. Your vibe. Your centering. Some call it flow state —like that, but not that. It’s more like where flow comes from.

It’s a state of being.
Pure presence.

So how do you get in this vibe?

You don’t get there. You don’t do your way there. It’s not something to find. It’s already yours. You are already it. And when we look in that direction — when we place our attention there, when we be in it — things have a beautiful way of unfolding. Not always perfectly, but perfectly enough. Because when we’re in that state, we don’t mind. The world simply looks different. We feel different. More peaceful. More alive.

Oh, and if you’re wondering how the airline story ended — the representative not only changed my flight, but also adjusted another trip I had scheduled and gave me $50 back!

The universe always knows how to smile back when we listen to our wanting.
